On July 1, 2016, GB/T32201-2015 "Gas Flowmeters" officially began to be implemented. This standard is drafted on the basis of the international recommendations OIMLR137-1&2:2012 of the international legal metrology organization OIML. It involves all principle types of gas flow meters except liquid gas, multiphase gas, steam flow meters and compressed natural gas (CNG) dispensers. It is a national standard for universal gas flow meters.

The standard specifies the terms and definitions, measurement units, measurement requirements, technical requirements, markings, operating instructions, sealing, applicability of pressure tapping holes, measurement control, type evaluation, * verification, and subsequent verification of gas flow meters.
The standard is applicable to flow meters based on any measurement technology or working principle, used to measure the volume or mass of gaseous fuels or other gases passing through under working conditions. It also applies to additional electronic devices, built-in correction devices, built-in temperature compensation devices, and other devices that can be added to the flow meter.
The standard is not applicable to the flowmeter for measuring liquid gas, multiphase gas and steam, and the flowmeter for measuring compressed natural gas used by compressed natural gas (CNG) dispensers.
For conversion devices used as flow meter components or products, devices for determining high calorific value, and gas flow measurement systems composed of multiple units, the relevant requirements are shown in OIMLR140.
